ADELAIDE SUMMER 2003
Adelaide has exceptionally long and very hot summers, which can start from the end of October, until the middle of March. There are 4 distinct seasons, which are the opposite of the Northern Hemisphere. The thing that makes summer seem so long is the fact that Spring and Autumn often have temperatures as high as 38C.
At the time of writing this article, on the morning of Sunday 14 th March 2004, The sun is shining, the sky is blue and cloudless, the temperature is 23C with a light breeze. This is a typical day for this time of year. A few weeks ago the temperature was 46C which is rather warm and very dry. That was BEACH WEATHER woo wee! (I admit to being totally addicted to Australian beaches and try and reach to one at least once or twice per week. South Australia has wonderful beaches and a total of approximately 4000km of coastline.
Below are a few photographs of life in South Australia on a normal day, mostly weekends. On Christmas Eve, one of the largest luxury liners ever built, docked at Port Adelaide with 2600 passengers and 1100 crew.
Sports feature prominently throughout the land, and Australia is a great sporting nation. I still find it difficult to comprehend the vast amount of sporting events and high quality facilities available to everyone from kindergarten (toddlers) right up to top professional level. It is no wonder that Australia often wins so much events and takes home numerous trophies… It all becomes clear when you spend time driving around most cities here and begin to find a huge amount of spacious parks and top of the range sporting complexes and academies.
The amazing weather contributes massively to the training of all outdoor sports. The warm sunshine, the blue skies and wonderful environment close to the beautiful sea, certainly leaves a lasting impression and a very high “feel good factor”. This is the most noticeable by tourists and backpackers alike.
It always feels good to come ‘home' to Adelaide or Australia once I've been travelling abroad. A few acquaintances have also echoed this sentiment.
My Cousin Sonia is working in Adelaide on a 2-year contract and loves the place and surroundings so much, that she has just applied to live here permanently! Which really does not surprise me. The feel good factor strikes again!
