Milton Westcarr says the Brits he has met in Adelaide really know how to let their hair down.

"HERE in Adelaide a lot of us Brits meet up at various social events, which are organised at venues all over the city.

Before emigrating I made sure I established some pen friends by using Australian News.

This resulted in some good friendships with Brits I knew in the UK who, like me, now live Down Under.

A few months back we all enjoyed a karaoke night at the Warradale Hotel, near Brighton. Boy, did we have a laugh -mostly at my expense!

Around 20 Brits turned up, most live in the surrounding suburbs. And many of the 'locals' also took part in the singing and dancing. I tried to quietly blend into the background -fat chance!

I was accosted -in the nicest possible way -by two voluptuous ladies who were deter- mined to keep me on the dance floor all night!

I politely declined, explaining I was a shy guy -much to the disappointment of the British contingent that told me I was letting the side down!

Despite the temperature outside being a chilly 7C, inside I was forced to loosen my collar and mop my brow, thanks to the revelries.

This night was definitely the hottest night so far for me in Australia.

Plenty of beer and wine flowed and we all watched as members from our group took it in turns to go up on the stage.

As we danced and sang the night away, the British children played happily together, with their new-found friends.

We plan to have many more karaoke nights together in the future. It was most enjoyable and interesting to meet so many people from various parts of the UK.

Even though we all come from different back- grounds we all have one thing in common -we are determined to forge ahead with making a real go of our new life in Australia."
