Easy to settle in South Australia

If you're moving to South Australia and are a skilled Migrant you should have few problems settling in. The state takes settling its migrants seriously and has a number of programmes designed to make relocation as stress- free an experience as possible.

Meet and Greet:

You can arrange for a Meet and Greet volunteer to meet you at the airport and transport you to your new home. Meet and Greet volunteers are there to pro-vide a whole host of information and to help new arrivals settle in. As part of the service you'll be taken on a shopping trip for groceries and given direction, guidance and information on opening a bank account, registering with Medicare, applying for a tax file number and so on. On- going contact is avail-able if needed.

Accommodation

Temporary accommodation can be provided for newly arrived skilled migrants to SA for a maximum of three months. There is a range of one- to three-bed properties available to new migrants, which come complete with beds/ mattresses, dining table and chairs, fridge, crockery and cutlery, vacuum cleaner, washing machine, toaster and kettle, cooking utensils, lounge suite and cleaning equipment.

Migrant Loan Referral

The SA Government is able to provide all migrants who emigrated under the Skilled Independent category with a referral letter for a loan. The letter is provided free of charge to help new migrants who would otherwise struggle to establish an Australian credit rating.

The loan is available through the Savings and Loan Credit Union for a maximum of $5,000, repayable over a one- to three-year term. Final authority on issuing the loan rests with the SLCU.

Settlement Orientation Service

The Settlement and Orientation Service (SOS) run a drop-in centre where migrants can meet other migrants and get information on topics such as housing, family services, transport, education, community organisations etc. Information sessions run by various speakers are available on a wide range of lifestyle topics and the service can provide links to employment help.

Available to Independent migrants experiencing severe financial hardship, it will offer a number of concessions on bills and activities..
