New Zealand Raglan Eco-
Reggae Festival Sound Splash 2003

In February 5-9 th February 2003, Jah Trinity was invited to participate at The Raglan Eco Reggae Festival in New Zealand. The event was being organised by "Motherland Collective" BFM and Whaingaroa Harbourcare.

This was a MASSIVE festival with artistes and performers from mainly NZ, but also from Australia and South Africa. Large crowds flocked to the venue, which was held in a natural amphitheatre near the beach in Raglan, North Island.

Jah Trinity Outanational was not the only DJ from Adelaide, Jesse Proverbs travelled with me to perform and sing several of his own records taken from his album that has since been released world wide.

Jesse certainly knows how to sing, especially the lovers rock! The ladies all gathered round in large numbers as he sung on stage dressed all in white! The accapella was brilliant and was warmly received.

DJ Morph also did a set in the afternoon on the big stage, playing some a selection of reggae styles. There were so many top bands that were performing on 2 stages, one on top of the hill and the other down below in the gully. It was quite a strenuous walk from one to the other and kept us fit!

All of the bands were superb and really had the crowds entertained from start to finish. The show ran for 24 hours non-stop and there were many side stalls with food and art and crafts. Scores of people camped out around the sides of the amphitheatre. I spent time with some friends that we made there and even managed to go swimming in the sea, just before I went on stage to do my set!

Jah Trinity played on the top stage after Bass Steppa sound system, from Auckland.

Things were a bit hectic due to the setting up of equipment in a short space of time, but the placed rocked for real once everything was sorted out and vibes reached. Sound effects wailing and bass, Midrange and treble sounded sweet!

Jah Trinity said:

" Hey Sound Engineer, just give me more bass, beca dis is Roots Reggae music and I beg you turn up de volume ah likkle more please sah!" Yeah dats it, I want to mek sure dat all de people at de back of de crowd and right down on de beach front, can hear dem dubplate specials from Jah Trinity Sound System, inna de area, you hear sah?"

New Zealand is fertile and green with an astonishing amount of natural beauty, such as waterfalls, beaches, hills and mountains.

The Maori people are very warm and friendly as were the general public that we met in Raglan.

Brian the promoter did an amazing amount of work promoting and helping to organise the whole event along with others in the group. I must say that those 5 days spent in New Zealand, was a revelation for me. I haven't stopped thinking about so many wonderful things that we saw and experienced there.

Jah Trinity and also played at Catalyst Club in Hamilton, along with Jesse proverbs The Chaplin from Bass Steppa. There wasn't much of a crowd there till later on when it became quite busy all of a sudden. The pubs must have just closed! All the DJs had a good night as did the crowd that arrived later.
