DRUM & BASS AT TRAFFIC NIGHTCLUB
Sat. 28 Feb 2004

Adelaide is home to Drum and Bass and a large crowd of up to 1000 people attended the Stardust Summer Street Party, held at Traffic Nightclub on North Terrace, Adelaide. There were 3 systems playing different styles of music in various rooms. The Drum & Bass system was actually in a cordoned off street called
' Fenn Place ' next door to The University of South Australia.

The bass line boomed out loud through out the area. long before I got near to the venue, this reminded me of many UK Reggae dances that are kept in clubs, parks and streets. This gave me heaps of inspiration to hear 'real heavy bass'. This is the one thing that I sorely miss; being able to go to certain dances with a good full on sound system, with bassline rolling and nobody saying "Turn it down the building can't take it Jah Trinity!" Duuh.

This was to be a night to remember as a long list of Adelaide's top D &B DJ's MC's MPK, Noddy, John Doe, Odessy Mr.S, Mark 7; Harass, Patch H-Bomb Cheeky B& mashed up the place along with DJs from interstate, over in Melb & Sydney.

The international DJ's like " London Electricity" who had a tough mic man who came with good lyrics and wicked tunes, had the crowd jumping!

DJ's Dillinja and Lemon D from the UK, where they play on their Valve Sound System, also jerked down the neighbourhood and for the very first time I actually had a full body massage with the low frequency bass! I will admit to screaming out "Yeah man more of dem style dey! Dats what me need, underground bassline!" Then I had to blow my whistle, "because this is how we do it" UK style.

The crowd loved the show, which carried on till daylight. I had to leave by 6am but the show just carried on rocking indoors. Adelaide has a thriving Drum and Bass scene that just keeps growing by the week. A good night was had by all. Respect to all the performers, promoters, sponsors and the crowd who know how to party hard every time. The Promoters are very highly organised in Australia, which is impressive.

Each show is promoted weeks in advance, early bird tickets available from selected outlets, such as Venuetix, Bass or selected shops.

Another highly efficient method of marketing, is the use of the excellent weekly music newspaper called, "Rip it Up" and sister magazine called,
"Onion" which is distributed to scores of venues fortnightly. This is a great method of finding out what's on around Adelaide . The radio is also used extensively.
